Australian Labradoodles – Breed History
Genuine Australian Labradoodles were originally bred in the
1980's to develop a service animal that was allergy and asthma
friendly and with negligible dog odor. Temperament and
obedience is always a major consideration in service animals.
Originally, a Labrador Retriever and a Standard Poodle were
crossed, but over a 20 year period, other breeds were selectively
entered into the bloodline for some specific qualities, which is
speculated to be as many as 6 breeds to produce these desired
characteristics.
The development of the Australian Labradoodle service animal
breed was closely researched, and the success in this bloodline is
highly reproduceable, consistent with highly recognized
health livelihood. This is unlike the casual first generation
crossbreeding of Labrador Retrievers and Standard Poodles, which is
common in the United States, and produces animals with unpredictable
characteristics and temperaments.
The Genuine Australian Labradoodle is perfected in its breeding.
They are gentle and highly intelligent with social temperaments
ideally suited as family companions, with an athletic nature.
They are available in 3 coat types, which are wool, wavy, and
fleece, which each have limited or non-shedding and no-odor, making
them ideal around human allergenic or asthmatic situations.
Genuine Australian Labradoodles come in a variety of colors, with
variants of cream, apricot, red, chocolate, black, and gold color
tones.
